Gum Arabic is a popular binder for watercolors because it dissolves easily in water. This natural gum is usually collected from various species of the North African acacia tree. Gum Arabic ranges from pale white to orange-brown.
Traditional watercolor medium. Very pure crystals. Swells in cold water. With plenty of water, the gum dissolves into a clear, viscous liquid. Solution takes longer than with warm water. Dissolve 1 part gum arabic in 2 parts heated water.
