Names and synonyms rhodonite: manganese silica, raspberry spar, incarose. Rhodonite got its name in the early 19th century because of its color. This comes from the Greek and translates as "rose". The pinkish-black manganese silicate becomes a deep dark, grayish-black powder when ground.
