Handling and Warnings
do not use in hot water
Since the Stone Age, Magnesite has been used alongside China Clay as a very pure white pigment in cave painting. Magnesite is a very poorly soluble magnesium carbonate, which reacts slightly alkaline. Strong acids destroy the crystals. Magnesite is in oil quite opaque. We recommend Magnesite for all aqueous techniques, in oil and other acidic binders magnesite could become more translucent with aging.
