Daylight fluorescent colors are particularly brilliant pigments which already have a striking signal effect in normal daylight and, moreover, can be stimulated to fluoresce with UV light. Due to their low opacity, application on white surfaces is recommended. The addition of small amounts of a daylight fluorescent color to other pigments increases the luminosity in visible light and when illuminated by UV light. The use in oil is uncommon since they dry very slowly and are only moderately lightfast. Although daylight fluorescent colors are difficult to disperse in aqueous binders, they are mostly used in water-based paints or acrylics. The poor lightfastness of daylight fluorescent pigments cannot be improved by a UV protective varnish. They should not be used in binders containing UV absorbers.
