Pine turpentine is a natural essential oil obtained by distillation and rectification from the resinous balsam of the pine tree. Pine turpentine reacts with water and oxygen in the air. The oxydation of pine turpentine causes the formation of acids. This may cause corrosion of the tin can, resulting in a brownish discoloration of the pine turpentine. Of this is the case the product should no longer be used. It helps a lot to fill up the containers with glass marbles in order to displace air. Pine turpentine can be used o dissolve wax and natural resins such as dammar, mastic or colophony. It is the historical thinner for oil paints. Not suitable for medical purposes!
