Colorful, pleasantly rich, water-miscible, clear liquid. Acetylacetone is split into acetone and acetic acid when boiled with alkalis. Starting point for synth. of sulfonamides of dimethylpyrimidine, dyes, salts, etc.
Acetylacetone is also used for solubility extraction of metals, as an auxiliary for chromatography and solvent for cellulose acetate.
