Solvent for natural and synthetic resin paints and component in paint thinners to improve flow and gloss and to counteract blistering. In the leather industry as a solvent for pyroxylin. Low volatile solvent for many basic dyes (e.g. for printing and dyeing of textiles). Component in cleaning agents, e.g. for printing rollers. Mixes completely with water, is hazardous to water in larger quantities ("M"). Store in a cool and dark place, as it changes in the presence of light and heat (yellowing). Decomposes on heating and in combination with alkalis. Relatively low volatility, flammable liquid with high flash point. Stronger heating results in explosive mixtures, ignition by hot surfaces, sparks or open flames.
