Receta: Soft Size-base Paint

Before the chemical modification of cellulose and the production of water-soluble cellulose glue, glue-/gelatin-/size-base paints were made from the gelatine and glue-forming tissues that occur in the bones, skins and intestines of animals. Bone glue is a very hard, brittle glue with high adhesive power. For wall paint, skin glue and rabbit-skin glue are more suitable, because they are more elastic. They are first soaked in water, then heated in a water bath and applied warm, because they can only be used when warm.

Procesamiento

Let 120 grams of skin glue soak in 1 liter of cold water for 1-2 hours. Paso 1: Let 120 grams of skin glue soak in 1 liter of cold water for 1-2 hours.
Heat the soaked glue in a water bath, to a maximum of 60 °C (= 140 °F) - the glue will be less flexible if heated above 60°C. Add about 1.5 kilograms of Chalk from Champagne or 1.5 kilograms of the pigment of your choice to the warm glue and let it soak. Paso 2: Heat the soaked glue in a water bath, to a maximum of 60 °C (= 140 °F) - the glue will be less flexible if heated above 60°C. Add about 1.5 kilograms of Chalk from Champagne or 1.5 kilograms of the pigment of your choice to the warm glue and let it soak.
Adding a little bit of Linseed Oil Varnish (#73100) will make the gelatin-/glue-/size-base smoother. The paint needs to be used warm, because the glue gels when left to cool. Leftover paint lasts in the refrigerator for a couple of days. Paso 3: Adding a little bit of Linseed Oil Varnish (#73100) will make the gelatin-/glue-/size-base smoother. The paint needs to be used warm, because the glue gels when left to cool. Leftover paint lasts in the refrigerator for a couple of days.
The calculated spreading rate is about 100 m2/ml. Paso 4: The calculated spreading rate is about 100 m2/ml.
