Receta: Casein Wood Glue

Recipe from: Hans Hadert, Kaseinleim und Kaseinfarbenbindemittel, 2. Aufl. Berlin 1937, p. 52.

Procesamiento

Paso 1: Stir 100 g of casein powder (#63200) into 200 g water (#65000) and let it soak.
Paso 2: Dissolve 11 g of sodium hydroxide (#64050) in 50 g water, then add this to the casein whilst stirring.
Paso 3: Stir 20 g of slaked lime (#31800) into the casein glue. This recipe makes about 250 ml of casein glue.

Ingredientes

100 g Caseína (#63200)
250 g Agua destilada (#65000)
11 g Hidróxido sódico (#64050)
20 g Cal hidratada (#31800)

Nota

The glue is low viscous, but strong, even in thin layers. The milky and yellowish-white glue solution, dries transparent and yellow. This glue cannot be stored and must be prepared and used the same day. It stays workable for max. 7 hours, then the glue gets stringy. Casein glue dries relatively water resistant. A higher lime content would improve the water resistance but would cause the glue to gel faster and would shorten the working time.
