Kremer Pigments Inc. New York is closed since end of November 2025

A Warm Farewell

For more than 30 years, Kremer Pigments Inc. has been fortunate to call New York City home. From our very first store on the Lower East Side in 1989 to our 20 years in Chelsea, Kremer Pigments was always more than a store – it was a meeting place for artists, conservators, craftspeople, instrument makers, woodworkers, and many others.

As we close our New York location end of November 2025, we look back with deep gratitude. We would like to thank everyone who has worked with us over the past decades for reviving the world of forgotten raw materials - whether in search of historic pigments and recipes or modern raw materials.

Your passion, commitment, professional knowledge, and trust have given Kremer Pigments its spirit, and this will remain with us.

Our Story

The story of Kremer Pigmente began in the 1970s, when chemist Dr. Georg Kremer revived centuries-old pigments such as Smalt Blue, which had been lost since the Baroque era. This passion spawns a unique collection: more than 1,500 pigments produced with precision and care according to historical recipes.

After nearly 50 years of continuous presence, our products are used worldwide to preserve the old and create the new. From New York studios to the world's great cultural institutions, products from the color mill in Aichstetten, located in the beautiful Allgäu region, have found their way into frescoes, canvases, and works of profound cultural significance.

Looking Forward

Though this chapter in New York ends, our work continues. Kremer Pigmente in Germany remains the heart of our company. The bridge between America and Europe endures, sustained by the universal language of color. Through our international website, our entire assortment continues to be available worldwide.

Our stores in Aichstetten and Munich remain open and continue to enjoy brisk business. Our products are also still available as usual from our international resellers.

We leave New York with gratitude, pride, and warmth - and we look forward to staying connected with you in the vibrant, colorful world of Kremer Pigmente.
